The Silver Lake chapter of the National Junior Honor Society began with the opening of our doors at Silver Lake in 2009.
Students in 7th and 8th grade are eligible to become members of the National Junior Honor Society when they have earned a grade point average of 3.75 for the first semester at their grade level. Eligible students apply by completing an application and fulfilling the other requirements necessary for membership. Students are rated on character, leadership, citizenship, and service by adults and teachers. The application, rating forms, and other requirements are evaluated by a faculty council consisting of the advisor, principal and other faculty members.
Students who are accepted into membership participate in an induction ceremony where they are given their full membership benefits. As a member of NJHS, students are expected to complete fifty hours of service a school year and be active in numerous service projects held at Silver Lake throughout the year.
