Academic Excellence and Leadership

At Nature Hill Intermediate School, students are encouraged to put 100% effort into their learning and to do their best academic work. We recognize strong student achievement in a number of ways:

Honor Roll

Students in 7th and 8th-grade who receive a grade point average of 3.3 for a quarter and have no D's or F's are listed on the quarterly honor roll.

High Honor Roll

Students in 7th and 8th grade who receive a grade point average of 3.7 for a trimester and have no Ds or Fs are listed on the trimester high honor roll.

National Junior Honor Society

Students in 7th and 8th-grade are eligible to become members of the National Junior Honor Society when they have earned a grade point of 3.75 for three consecutive quarters at their grade level. Eligible students must fill out applications, and a faculty council reviews rating forms filled out by the students' teachers. Students are rated on character, leadership, citizenship, and service. After induction, students are expected to provide service to others. Students are to do service for four hours on their own and participate in at least one project organized by the National Junior Honor Society.

Presidential Academic Awards

The President's Education Awards Program is an effort by the U.S. Department of Education to recognize outstanding educational achievement and effort. The program consists of two awards, the President's Award for Educational Excellence and the President's Award for Educational Achievement. To receive the Excellence Award, eighth-grade students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above during seventh grade and the first and second quarters of eighth grade. To be eligible for the Achievement Award, students must show tremendous growth in achievement overall or in a particular subject, demonstrate unusual commitment to learning despite obstacles, or demonstrate exceptional achievement in the arts. Teams of teachers select Achievement Award winners. Students receive a certificate signed by the President and a letter from him. A list of students receiving Presidential Awards is published in the local newspapers.

Out of Level Standardized Testing

While enrolled in the intermediate school, students who score very well on Wisconsin Standardized Tests can be eligible to take ACT or SAT tests usually taken during high school. If you are interested in this opportunity for your child, please contact the guidance office for more information.
