Students 16 and younger are required by the state of Wisconsin to obtain a work permit before starting any job.
Work Permit Directions Starting Now
Unlike the previous process to get a permit through the main office, parents can now log on to the Department of Workforce Developments page and use their permit application tool. Here is the link: Work Permit.
This new system will allow you to apply for a permit 24/7 from any computer, tablet or phone. You will make your payment through the system as well. The department will mail a paper copy of the permit directly to your student's employer.
This will be the only means of receiving a work permit starting on July 1. Our main offices will no longer be able to process permits, however you can use a computer and have internet access to complete your form online.
Work Permit Directions Until June 30
Work permits are available in the main office. Please bring the following information when you request a work permit:
- A letter from the employer on the employer’s letterhead, or a letter that includes the business name, business address, business phone number, nature of business, the type of job duties the minor will be performing, and the hours the minor will be working.
- Parental permission in writing with the student’s current address and phone number.
- $10.00 for the permit fee.
- The minor's original social security card
- The minor's birth certificate or other proof of age document:
- verified baptismal certificate
- original passport (no copies accepted)
- driver's license
- state ID
Permit requests will be accepted Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. during the school year.
Students will be able to pick up completed permits 24 hours after the request is completed. The STUDENT must pick up the work permit in order to sign the required form in the presence of the permit officer.
