Music Classroom Renovations
Current upper gym at OHS
More Information
Enrollment in the band, orchestra, choir, and theater programs has grown substantially since these classrooms were built in 1965. Consequently, these areas are too small, have accessibility challenges, and are poorly configured for instruction.
Proposed renovation of the Upper Gym to music spaces
To address these needs, the project would:
Renovate the existing OHS upper gym to create a larger, dedicated music area for band, orchestra, choir, and drama
Add sufficient storage for instruments and uniforms, directly adjacent to the classroom spaces
Add multiple practice rooms for each music program
Keep these programs on the second floor for easy access in and out of the spaces and to the OAC
Art Classroom Renovations
Current art and music classrooms at OHS
More Information
The art classrooms are part of the original high school, built in 1965 and first served as home economics classrooms. As such, they're poorly configured for modern art classrooms and lack storage and natural light. Over the last few years, student interest in art classes has increased significantly but with our limited space, we've had to turn students away from classes.
Proposed renovation of the music and art classrooms to art spaces
To address these needs, the project would:
Renovate the current art and music classrooms to create five art classrooms
Add sufficient storage space for art program materials
Add a new space to display student artwork
Add natural light to several of the classrooms
Add a cafe and commons area where students could order and eat lunch and work in small groups

Physical Education & Athletics Addition
More Information
Enrollment in physical education and strength training classes along with athletics participation has grown considerably, as have requests for gym space from community organizations and youth sports programs. OHS currently has two gym spaces and a detached weight room. These spaces are used for:
Physical education classes
Athletics competitions
Year-round athletics practices and conditioning
School assemblies, school club events, and large-group programs or learning
Annual large-group testing for things like the ACT, Forward Exams, IB, and AP
Additional seating for lunch
Community events and youth sports programs
Summer youth sports camps
Strength and conditioning classes
After school and summer school strength and conditioning classes
Athletics strength and conditioning workouts
Proposed Expansion at Oconomowoc High School
These spaces are in high demand, 7 days a week, and experience daily schedule conflicts, forcing physical education classes, athletics practices, student clubs, and community groups to utilize gym space at other OASD schools or improvise by using classroom or hallway space at OHS. In addition, the current detached weight training facility is no longer large enough to accommodate the number of students who participate in strength and conditioning courses during the school day, in athletics conditioning after school, or in strength and conditioning during the summer. The current spaces also lack adequate storage for the physical education and athletics equipment that's used on a daily basis.
To address these needs, the project would:
Add a new auxiliary gym space for physical education classes, gymnastics, dance, intramural sports programs, and large group gatherings. This auxiliary gym would replace some of the upper gym space being lost with the renovation of the upper gym into music classrooms
Add a new and larger strength and conditioning space that's attached to the school
Add additional locker rooms
Add new space for cardio fitness equipment and programming
Add a wrestling practice room
Cafeteria Renovations
Proposed expansion for cafeteria seating at OHS
More Information
The main cafeteria at OHS has seating for about 240 of the almost 1,600 students at OHS. To create additional seating, classroom spaces in both the lower North and lower South wings have been converted to lunch serving and seating space. When the upper gym is available, tables and chairs are set up for eating lunch however, physical education classes, athletics, testing, and large group activities often take place in the upper gym, preventing lunch seating. Students also eat lunch in a variety of classrooms and hallway seating areas. The number of lunch seating areas spread out throughout the building creates supervision, clean-up, and class scheduling challenges.
To address the lack of centralized lunch seating, the project would:
