The Oconomowoc Arts Center was built to celebrate the arts and created for the students of the Oconomowoc Area School District, the communities of greater Oconomowoc, and the Lake Country region.
Part of a $49.6M referendum passed in 2006 by 13 municipalities, the OAC officially opened to the public in December 2008 with a day-long performance by district choirs, orchestras, and bands. The evening featured the production, "A Christmas Carol," presented by the Oconomowoc High School Drama Department.
The facility is highlighted by original artwork which includes "Melody," an 8 foot tall bronze sculpture donated by the Oconomowoc Festival for the Arts; an original painting by renowned artist and OHS alum, the late Charles Dix, donated by the Oconomowoc Performing Arts Council; and stain glass panels created by local artist Paul Phelps of Oakbrook Esser Studios that are installed throughout the lobby of the OAC and includes glass insert panels on the lobby's south view window.
During the 2008-09 school year, the Arts Center prepared the Oconomowoc Area School District for its new home while beginning plans to launch its first professional series of programming. The OAC offers Main Stage (headliners), Film Series (documentaries), Cabaret Cafe (dinner and a show), Comedy series, and Special events.
